Rinshika's 'What's your Cause'

Cerebral Palsy Society.

Celebral Palsy - Hōkai Nukurangi is a lifelong condition and refers to a group of permanent conditions caused by a disturbance or abnormal brain development. Starting in infancy and lasting for life, Cerebral Palsy is the most common childhood onset disability in New Zealand and throughout the world that affects movement and posture.

I'm motivated to make a meaningful impact for an incredible cause: supporting people with Cerebral Palsy to live life to the full, early detection and therapy.

October is Be Green, Be Seen month coinciding with World Cerebral Palsy Day on 6 October. Join me and support this powerful effort. Together, we can help shape brighter futures for children facing cerebral palsy.

During the month, we’re going to be celebrating Be Green, Be Seen by:

  • Fundraising via fundraising profile created for Rotorua Rotary Passport on Cerebral Palsy Society’s page - link below
  • Walk around Blue Lake on Saturday 18th October at 10am
  • Dress up in green for our next Rotary Club meeting

Every contribution and support makes a significant impact, offering hope and opportunities to families in need.

Your generosity will go towards the Society’s ‘getProgramme’ – funding support towards transport, counselling, equipment, exercise and everyday essentials for people with Cerebral Palsy as well as vital advisory services and social connection events.

“What's your Cause”

At our July meeting, President Dane invited each of us to reflect on a cause close to our hearts - something meaningful that you want to champion this year. As a club, we’re committed to backing those personal passions throughout 2025. If you have not yet submitted your cause, please do so by our October meeting. Let’s turn intention into impact, together.

Each year, World Polio Day reminds us of Rotary’s unwavering commitment to eradicating polio worldwide. It’s a moment to reflect on the progress we’ve made - and the work still ahead.

Would anyone in our club like to host an event to mark the occasion? A community fundraiser, an awareness campaign, or a simple gathering to honour the cause, every effort helps keep polio on the global agenda. If you’re keen to lead or collaborate on something, please reach out!

As we freshen up our homes this spring, let’s also think about how our unused items might serve a greater cause. If you're sorting through books, pet supplies, or household goods, consider donating to one of our “What’s Your Cause”

  • SPCA: Suzie & Charlie's “What's your Cause” A club drive is already underway to collect towels, blankets, pet beds, unopened food, and toys for SPCA Rotorua.
  • Friends of the Library: Used books, puzzles, and toys help stock community programs.
  • Local Schools or Early Childhood Playgroups: Art supplies, educational games, and stationery can support creative learning.
  • Shelters and Support Services: Toiletries, warm clothing, and kitchenware are always appreciated.

Your spring clean could be someone else’s fresh start. Let’s make it count. Quality goods can be dropped at Summit.
