Expressions 5 was incredible!

Expressions was bigger and better than ever this year! Huge thanks to everyone who worked behind the scenes, attended the event, and to the incredible Expressions committee. A recap of the evening will be shared at our September meeting next week.

What is the Rotary FOundation?

The Rotary Foundation was established in 1917 when Rotary International President Arch Klumph proposed setting up an endowment “for the purpose of doing good in the world.” That vision began with a humble donation of $26.50 from the Rotary Club of Kansas City, Missouri. Over time, the Foundation grew into a global force for humanitarian service, funding projects that promote peace, fight disease, support education, and alleviate poverty. What started as a simple idea has become one of the world’s most respected charitable foundations

WHAT IS A DISTRICT GRANT?

District Grants are Rotary Foundation funds that help clubs like ours deliver local projects—like our hygiene packs programme.
Here’s how the funding works:

  • Rotarians donate to The Rotary Foundation which are invested for three years.
  • After three years, the funds return to our district as District Designated Funds (DDF).
  • Clubs apply for a District Grant to support a specific project.
  • If successful the district matches club’s contribution, doubling the impact of what we raise.

So, when we give to the Foundation, we’re not just supporting global efforts—we’re building the resources that come back to us, ready to be used for good right here in our community. Thanks to this grant, our hygiene packs have reached more people, with greater impact.

If you are interested in learning more and supporting the club with Grant applications, please let us know as Juanita is keen to pass on her skills and knowledge in this area before next Rotary year.

Thank you!

Another big thank you to those who hosted Lincoln University Student earlier last week. Your support has raised about $700 for the Passport club.

“What's your Cause”

At our August meeting, President Dane invited each of us to name our cause - something meaningful that you want to champion this year. As a club, we’re committed to backing those personal passions throughout 2025/26. At our September meeting, we will be documenting those who are still deciding. Let’s turn intention into impact, together.

On 21 September, an event has been arranged to gather and mark the significance of peace in our world, our communities, and our own lives. Let’s stand together for peace—locally and globally.

Time: 10:30am – 11:30am
Location: Centennial Park, Mokoia Dr, Rotorua (BBQ area)
RSVP by Friday 12 September to Janine – bjanine@xtra.co.nz

Janine's 'Cause'

Together with New Zealand schools, landowners and our sponsorship partners, our action based environmental education programme supports school communities to nurture, grow and plant native plants in areas they're needed the most - protecting and restoring habitat in waterways and on vulnerable land.
